In society today, the push to keep busy is forced upon us daily. Most of the time we keep busy in our own strength, not realizing that all we are trying to do is to avoid the quiet place where God can speak to us. We work around the clock so that we can have enough money to belong, because these days people measure excellence and success solely by what they have. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that having money is not good, it’s just the value we put in it. I know that we need money and the necessities it purchases, but the question is, how much is enough? We all claim to have a relationship with God, but we do place all else before him. Rather than wallowing in guilt and asking God what we should give up, let’s focus on giving him 15 to 30 minutes of our time everyday. Keep in mind that committing 15 to 30 minutes to God everyday is hard work, because we have to let go of something else in order to do that. For some of us 15minutes might be too long, and for others 30minutes might be too short. If 15minutes is all you can do, then do 15minutes. Don’t set goals that are impossible to accomplish, because you will be setting yourself up to fail. You can start with 15minutes and go to 30minutes when you are more comfortable. It is wise to make goals in several small achievable steps, rather than one overwhelming task.
“LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill? He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart
and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman.”
( Ps. 15:1-3
