Fearing God doesn’t mean being afraid of him; it means standing in awe of him. Fear connotes a healthy respect and honor. God’s goodness cascades like a fountain over those who respect him, protecting them from the things that could bring them harm.
He is a fountain of life on earth and in eternity. On earth, when you show you fear God by obeying his commands, you will avoid the people and places that are physically and spiritually dangerous to you. Your fear for God will carry you into eternal life, where his love will pour over you forever.
“LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill? He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart
and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman.”
( Ps. 15:1-3
